A Call to Consecration

Recently I have felt a specific tug on my heart from the Holy Spirit. Over and over again I have heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “It’s time for consecration. What was permissible a year ago, is not permissible any longer.” The dictionary defines consecration as the process of declaring or setting apart as sacred or holy. God’s invitation to us is to let His spirit set us apart for sacred use. He is looking for a people that He can form into the image of His Son and use as messengers and ministers in the move of His Spirit that is coming.

As I have meditated on this invitation from the Lord, I am convinced that this call to consecration is a serious directive from the Lord. I also feel like this is an invitation that is being extended to the body of Christ as a whole. I know that God is speaking this to people all over the globe. There is a general sense in the global church that God is preparing His bride for a great move of His Spirit. The call to consecration is a call we need to take seriously. I am reminded of the book of Joshua where God told the nation of Israel to prepare for a great visitation.

Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.”
Joshua 3:5

God is extending this same call to His people today. He is calling us to the place of corporate and individual consecration. The reason consecration is so important is because of the increased manifestation of the presence of the Lord that is about to be released on the earth. Our God is holy and His manifest presence is incompatible with sin and compromise. If we want to be a people who are truly carriers of His presence, we have to be holy like He is holy.

There are a few ways in which you can respond to this invitation.

First, you need to truly humble yourself before the Lord and ask Him to reveal this call to you as an individual. It is vital that you know from the Lord that this is a serious call from Him and not just some man’s good idea. When we know the Lord has spoken to us as individuals, it gives us the ability to take ownership of what He has said to us. When we hear the word of the Lord for ourselves it releases faith and grace in our hearts to do what He is asking us to do.

Second, we need to share this invitation with our local churches and christian small groups. Once the Lord has confirmed in your heart that this invitation is really from Him, I urge you to be bold and share the invitation with your local christian community.

Third, begin to organize times of prayer and worship. Part of the consecration process is setting aside intentional time to come into the presence of the Lord and worship Him. In these times we should pay close attention to His Spirit’s leading. He may direct us into times of repentance and confession. He may also direct you to intercede for a specific issue in your church or city. Whatever it is, we need to take special care that we are humbly submitted to Him.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of the ways that you can respond to this invitation. It is only a starting point get you praying. Please prayerfully consider this invitation and how the Lord wants to respond to Him. God’s Spirit is on the move and He is preparing His bride for one of the biggest outpourings of His Spirit that the earth has ever seen. We need to be ready.

As you pray about all of this remember that His presence is the strategy!!!
